In the beginning, there was a Substack called The Herald's Horn. From it was birthed, well… nothing, for some time. It sat on the vine, maturing from the spring of 2023 until the winter of the same year. The idea grew, transformed, matured, and eventually emerged - taking the form of a podcast of the same name but different in intent. Where the Herald’s Horn (Substack) was to be a place of Magic curation, the Herald’s Horn (Podcast) became one of collation and conversation and information - an important distinction. But the original mother plant remained, gaining strength, for 12 long months, watching it’s child gain success and bring joy. It saw what its son had, and it wanted that too. So here it goes, off into the wide world. Two Herald’s Horns, formed, not made, to each do their own duties, exploring, forging unique paths through the miasma that is Magic: The Gathering.
lmao
Well, here we are again. As usual, these things somehow stem back to the one and only Sam, better known as Rhystic Studies, from before I could call him a friend. Somewhere, some place, he threw out the idea that someone should focus more on content curation for the Magic space. There’s so dang much of it, where’s the best stuff? The idea stuck in my brain, lived on my desktop for a bit, was named SignalPest.txt funnily enough. I threw ideas at it in obscurity when I had spare time (which wasn’t often between working extensively for Playing with Power, writing for TCGplayer & Commander’s Herald, buying a home, being married, working a 9-5). By the time I got around to finding the bandwidth, Sam was moving towards making his own Signal Pest and my ideas for what I wanted to make in my own spare time had shifted. Hence, the podcast. But now… we are so back. I can’t stop writing. I can’t stop thinking about Magic. I have my own wide ranging creative project concerning Magic that I need to conquer and I need a place to place it.
Beyond my own work, I would love to have the chance to publish and signal boost the work of others, too, all within the Magic space.
Someone sent me a piece in the DMs the other day that they couldn’t manage to get published somewhere else. That’ll be here soon. Subscribe, or whatever.
